Great Choice For Your Collection!
This artist signed plate by Alfred Clough Ltd., St. Louis Works, Longton, England depicts a Royal Canadian Mounted Police Officer on his horse patrolling a wooded area near a lake. It is perhaps one of the nicest plates of this type that I've come across. It is signed by the artist but I cannot decipher the name. The last name looks like Clayton, but I can't be certain that is correct.
This will be a great display item to add to your RCMP collection. Due to styling I would estimate this dates from the '60s era, possibly earlier. I estimate that 98% of the gold trim is in tact. The rim is a raised flower and swag/scroll design with small raised beads around the scalloped edge.
The only flaw that I detect, is a small chip on the back of the plate. It does not view through to the front of the plate and is more of a sliver chip where the glaze has been chipped off. It measures about 3/8" across. Very little of this flaw is embedded into the actual plate. Please, click on the image to get a better view of this area.
