Amberina Blown Glass 17" Footed Pitcher Ewer or Vase
This large, footed ewer-shaped pitcher is a luscious amberina (red shading to yellow), with an applied yellow handle and base. The bottom has an unfinished pontil. It would make a terrific
vase.
We did not find a likeness in any of our Blenko or Pilgrim Glass reference books, but the style is typical of West Virginia glass making in the mid-1950's. Of course, it could be European -
Murano, perhaps. We will let you decide.
Dimensions: Measures 17" high at the spout.
Marks/Dates: Probably mid-1950's/1960's. There is a mark on the pontil that looks like a chicken's footprint. It could just be the tool used, or it could be a maker's mark.
There was a taped note on the bottom that the hideous artificial flowers it held were a gift in 1973.
Condition: No cracks, chips or other damage. There is a bubble in the glass on the lower front, and a tool mark on the rim near the handle.
