Please, allow me to present this spectacular ewer and underplate for your consideration. Though I am not an expert in Italian ceramics, through my research via the Internet, I have to say this is probably the most beautiful of the Capo-Di-Monte styled pitchers that I've have seen. The addition of the underplate makes this a set to behold. It is facinating in its high relief three-dimensional characterizations of putti (cherubs), and nude people in various depicted scenes.

The pitcher is decorated around the circumference. From whatever angle you look you are going to be delighted with the Capodimonte styling accomplished in this item. It is amazing. There are nude figures and cherubs galore in the continuous scene around the circumference of the pitcher. There are ponds and vegetation depicted on the bottom portion of the mythological nudes. The shape of the pitcher gives the appearance that this might be two pieces with the pitcher attached to a base, but this is all one ceramic piece. There is beautiful detailing on the elaborate handle and directly underneath

The underplate is the perfect compliment for the pitcher. Following the concept of the pitcher, we have the cherubic nudes going around the plate in various forms of activity and frolic. The verge of the plate has a raised scroll and floral design that is highlighted in gold.

Since, I am not an expert, I cannot say exactly when this was made. Most pieces on the Internet in this styling are being attributed dates from the 50's and some 60s, with others dating their wares earlier. What is generally accepted is that these wares were imported to high-end establishments for sale here in the states.

I am going to provide you with pictures that I hope will tell the rest of the story on this fabulous ewer set. It is quite stunning and I'm sure it would be a marvelous addition to your home.

The pitcher is 17 3/8" tall measuring to the top of the handle. It is 7" across measuring the spout and handle. The circumference is 17", and the lovely base is 5 1/8" across. The underplate is 14 1/4" across x 2 1/2" deep.

As you can see in the picture of the underplate, there is some wear to the gold in the center well. There is slight loss to the gold on the verge decoration but there is nothing that detracts from the display quality of the gorgeous set. it is sure to be an eye pleaser!

I think you are going to be truly pleased with your purchase.

Though I am providing lots of pictures for your viewing pleasure, I ask that you please contact me with other questions that you might have.

The only other flaw that I notice is a small glaze nick on the base. I could not get that to show up in a picture and it is narrow and about a little over 1/8" in length. Again, this does not affect the display quality.

Because of the size of each item, for safety purposes we will double box the pitcher and the underplate invidually and the place both in one large, well padded box. We will package your items with great care and diligence.
