The Eyewinker pattern has been attributed to Dalzell, Gilmore & Leighton Glass Co circa 1889. The plates in this line are unusual in that they have turned up sides making them square. with an added fan shaped element on two of the sides. At 9" this is the 2nd largest size plate. It is said that if you hold a piece of this pattern at eye level looking at one of the eyes and tilt it up and down the eye will wink at you. This patter is also known as Cannon Ball, Crystal Ball and Winking Eye.
Plates with a fancy edges like this are not found in many pattern lines as ordinary use would subject them too getting dinged. This plate is no exception. I tried to photograph the dings but the shots did not come out. So here goes there are two flakes on the inside of two of the fan elements one on each side. there are nicks and flea bites on the inside of about 7 of the balls and fan elements. In part this condition is found on the mold lines which run along the smooth "flat" top/inside of the plate. These do not visually affect the profile of the edge. This is priced to reflect its condition and availability.
All of my items are used and will show some signs of our ancestor’s normal use. This is not damage like a chip or a crack. If use marks, in my opinion, are unusually noticeable I will comment on it.
