A Great Item for Collectors of Dunkirk, New York Memorabilia
I am pleased to offer this wonderful vintage demitasse cup & saucer advertising SAFE STORE.
The cup and saucer were made by Homer Laughlin China Co. of Newell, WV in 1954. It is on the Nautilus shape and is so marked on the saucer.
The Safe Store was located in Dunkirk, New York and occupied the Masonic Temple; which sadly was destroyed by fire in the spring of this year.
In 1954 Safe Store celebrated its 50th Anniversary. I'm not sure if these cup & saucer sets were promotional items given away to customer, or if they were employee reward give-a-ways.
The Safe Store was a 15-department retail store and was known as Dunkirk's best. Safe Store closed in the 1960s.
This cup and saucer is in excellent condition. There are no chips, cracks, or hairlines. There is very little wear to the gold trim around the rim and handle of the cup and little wear to the gold trim around the rim of the saucer. I think you will be extremely satisfied with the condition!!
I think the collector of all things Dunkirk related would welcome this set as treasured addition to their collection.
This too would make a nice set for the Homer Laughlin or Advertising Collector on any shopping list.
The saucer is 5 1/4" across and the cup is 2 1/4" tall.
My pictures make the pottery appear whiter than it is, they are more of a cream or off white color.
