I've had this unusual glass for some time, unable to find much about it. It is made of wood, laquered black on the outside and gilded in bright good on the inside of the bowl. The painting of a rooster with a fantastic golden tail cascading down from the limb of a cherry bough where he is perched is very finely executed. The motif of the cherry blossoms makes me think this may be a Japanese piece, but there are no marks to indicate origin. The cup is 6 inches tall, 2 5/8" wide at the rim.
