Homer Laughlin RY191 Chartreuse Green Magnolia Bowls

This is a Homer Laughlin Rhythm shape Fruit or Berry bowls in the RY 191 pattern. This pattern consists of a series of 3 Chartreuse blooms, 1 large and 2 small extending from a branch that also bears tiny leaves in a dark blue green color. The blooms remind me very strongly of Magnolias and they follow the bloom cycle of the blossoms bursting out before the leaves.

These two bowls are in good to very good condition. There are no chips, cracks or nicks. There is some moderate wear to the design, but there are no major scratches or areas missing. The back of these bowls is marked: Rhythm by Homer Laughlin USA ®K 51 N 4. This mark indicates that these were produced in October of 1951 and are thus well over 50 years old.

The pattern is extremely evocative of the type of dinnerware used in this period that is now beginning to be known as Mid Century Modern. Both the shape of the dinnerware and the pattern show clear straight lines and utilize the colors normally thought of as relating to this style.
