Gorgeous Display Plate!
This lovely plate is signed: Hand Painted No.2, Italy.
I picked up several of these plates at an estate sale several years ago and proudly display three of them in my own dining room. They make a wonderful display and I've received many compliments. I listed one for auction and the buyer was very happy with her purchase!
I really love these plates, and thought I might be able to use some of the others but finally decided that space didn't allow for that.
When I first purchased these I made every effort to attempt to identify a possible maker. I finally contacted the author of Italian Pottery Marks From Cantagalli to Fornasetti, Walter Del Pellegrino, to see if he could assist. Mr. Del Pellegrino kindly gave me his opinion that these probably dated from the 1950s and were imported for high-end department stores and I'd probably never be able to attribute them to a specific artist or company.
This handpainted plate has embossed (raised) fruit around the wide rim and the center well has a black grape-type fruit handpainted in the well.
The plate has a vintage ceramic feel to it which I think adds to the mystique and simple beauty. It will be wonderful as a cabinet plate or displayed in a wall rack.
There are no chips, cracks, or hairlines.
The plate measures 11 1/4" across and weighs 1.8 pounds prior to packaging for shipping. Don't hesitate to add this beauty to your collection.
