Four porcelain individual salt dishes or dips by the fine maker CFH GDL Limoges of France. This is the mark of Charles Field Haviland, and the form dates these salts to 1891. The mark is shown in the third photo. Each salt bears this mark. Since the violets that encircle and decorate the interior of the salts are hand painted, the pattern varies slightly from salt to salt. The slightly ruffled rim is outlined in gilt, which shows very slight signs of wear. I would guess that these have seen no use but have been displayed as cabinet pieces.
The salts are tiny, about 1 3/4 inches across at the widest point, which is the base, and 1/2 inch tall. Condition is excellent, no cracks, chips, or crazing. The violets are as brilliant as the day they were painted nearly 120 years ago.
