Here for your consideration is a large plate, platter or charger that has been decorated with large roses and cherries. This plate is very reminiscent of the porcelain pieces that came out of Germany and from Wheeling, WV during the first quarter of the 20th century.
While it's not a portrait plate it is very similar to the hard paste porcelain plates that were produced for that use. The Floral decoration is not hand painted but applied under the glaze. It is very Victorian in nature.
The roses are a deep burgundy, wine, various pinks and a soft yellow. The leaves are multiple shades of pale green. This is truly an outstanding piece of porcelain. The edges are beaded with small fans interspersed along the scalloped rim. They are enhanced with a thin band of gold that is not solid but has breaks between the 5 curved bands.
The plate measures approximately 11 3/4" wide. It is not marked.
It is in excellent condition with no damage. There are no chips, cracks or nicks. There is no crazing. There is some wear to the gold trim but I estimate that it is 95% intact. There is some wear to the base but nothing outside acceptable limits.
