This vase has a sculpted and reticulated rim, gold-filled, "ear-shaped" handles, and white, gold-decorated feet. Its ovoid body is a deep cobalt blue with gold encrusted flowers but what makes this vase so special is the "melting candle" effect of the white, gold-trimmed throat. It looks like dripping wax.
Kyle Husfloen, noted editor of The Antique Trader, personally inspected this vase and assessed it as having been, "crafted in the late 1800's, most likely in the Austria Bavaria region of Germany, by one of the less well-known porcelain factories." He valued it as up to $500., and noted that it is "a beautiful piece."
Dimensions: Measures 11 1/4" high x 4 1/2" at the handles.
Marks/Dates: Red, intricately scrolled "WV" backstamp on the bottom. As yet, unidentified.
