By the English maker Adams, fine deep blue lusterware miniature. This tiny bowl, perhaps an open salt, commemorates Fort Arthur, Ontario, Canada. The design cut out and applied in white porcelain, is the Canadian leaf, a city shield for Ontario, and a curled banner inscribed For Arthur, Ontario. Besides being a beautiful piece of old Adams jasperware in their characteristic deep blue, it is a nice souvenir or commemorative piece.
Condition is superb, no damage of any kind. It is impressed on the base Adams, Estbd. 1657, Tonstall, England, and the marks S and a small R or B, probably for the design and the artist who worked on it.
Height is 1 3/4" and rim diameter 2 3/4", perfect for open salt size though it may have been made simply as an art piece or even a tiny individual sugar.
