This is a lovely, unusual hand painted china box of unknown origin. The hand painted scene is exquisitely done and the box is signed by the artist, Lundberg(?).
It is very reminiscent of Germany or France in the early to mid 1800s.
The decoration features a a panorama that includes ships, buildings, small boats and landscaping.
The buildings off on the distance look as if they are a walled city which would reinforce the European character of the piece. The ships are rigged with sales and look ready to set off on a trading venture.
The top is enhanced with gold and the scene is framed with greenery that includes plants and trees. There's even a flock of birds in the sky.
The top is ruffled and the base and top have booth been enhanced with a mother of pearl finish. The feet are covered with gold.
Dimension(s): 6 1/2" long x 4 3/4" wide x 2 3/4" tall
Mark: none signed by the artist
Condition: excellent. There are no chips, cracks, or nicks. There is some wear to the gold on the lid and again at the feet.
Manufacturing Imperfections: Minor bubble pop and some irregularity in the base finish along the ruffles.
