Here for your consideration is a handled cream soup bowl and the matching under plate made by Vignaud of Limoges, France.
Replacements has identified this pattern as VIG 135 however the example they provide has a blue rim and these have gold rims. The decoration consists of a red and blue butterfly with a red and blue floral design that has accents of yellow and green
The plate measures 6 3/4" across the soup bowl measures 4 3/4" across without the handles.
They are in excellent condition with no chips, cracks or nicks. There is no scratching and there are no repairs. The wear to the back is minimal. I originally thought that the handles showed considerable wear to the gold enhanced areas but I have since realized that the gold was only applied to the edges and never to the handles in their entirety.
The bowl is marked France Vignaud Limoges. The plate is marked the same but with the addition of The J. L. Hudson Co Detroit, Mich. The information that I have been able to find on this mark indicates that it was used from roughly 1928 until 1970 when Vignaud was absorbed into Bernardaud.
It measures 8 1/2" long and 3 1/2" high. It is in very good condition with no cracks or chips. There is no crazing. There are 2 small nicks in the bottom along the edge, but nothing that would affect the integrity of the piece and nothing that is visible from either the top or the side. There is wear to the bottom but nothing that should not be expected from a piece well over 100 years old.
