Wheelock Menasha WI Souvenir Plate R W Schlegel

Wheelock China directly ordered souvenir items from various companies in Austria and Germany to meet the needs of their customer base in the Untied States. This particular plate was had painted in Austria, Vienna to be precise and then imported and marked with the name R W Schlegel of Menasha, Wisconsin.

The center of this plate features a panoramic view of the US Govt Sluice Gates on the Fox River in Menasha. The exterior edge is heavily embossed with a patterns of scrolls and dots. That outer edge has been painted in a light willow green that shades to white in the center of the plate.

Hand painted flowers with leaves and stems, that rather remind me of shaggy chrysanthemums are located in 3 spots around the edge and 3 smaller blooms can be found between each of the larger flowers. The larger flowers are accented in shades of purple, fuchsia and white.

Condition: very good to excellent. I find one small discolored area on the right hand side of the plate about where a plate hanger might be found. I can't tell if there is a chip or if it just is worn in that particularly area. Otherwise no chips, cracks or nicks. There is some wear to the base and some minor scratches on the surface.
